Braves unable to get going against Panthers

Weston Melvin threw for 125 yards and three touchdowns on Friday in leading Miami Trace to a 40-0 non-league win over visiting Logan Elm.

Cameron Morris pounced on the football that was fumbled into the end zone for a touchdown to put the Panthers ahead 6-0.

Miami Trace (2-1) extended its lead later in the first quarter on a nine-yard toucheown pass from Melvin to Shay Salyers.

Melvin continued the scoring in the second quarter, this time with a one-yard pass to Garrett Guess that made it 20-0.

With a minute remaining before halftime, Melvin connected with Ashton Connell on a 58-yard scoring strike to give the Panthers a 27-0 lead at the break.

Jayden LeBeau paced the Panthers with 165 yards rushing and a touchdown on 15 carries.

Logan Elm’s Blayton Reid rushed for 111 yards on 13 carries and quarterback Garret Summers completed 7 of 15 passes for 76 yards in the loss.

The Braves (2-1) open Mid-State League Buckeye Division play next week when they host Hamilton Township (1-0).
