Bearcats force five turnovers in victory over Mustangs

Paint Valley used a 22-point outburst in the opening quarter on Friday to seize control of a Scioto Valley Conference game and hand visiting Westfall a 42-7 setback.

The Bearcats benefited from forcing five turnovers in the contest.

Cordell Grubb put the Bearcats on the scoreboard with a 36-yard run. Cavan Cooper doubled the lead with a two-yard tote over the goal line and later in the quarter completed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Dillon McDonald.

The Bearcats expanded their lead to 28-0 in the second quarter on a 56-yard touchdown strike from Cooper to Beau Blankenship.

Touchdown runs of 11 and 14 yards from Cooper allowed the Bearcats to initate the running clock in the third quarter.

The Mustangs reached the scoreboard on a six-yard touchdown run from Jaden Towler.

Towler had five carries for 74 yards and Michael Hardwood gained 37 yards on just two carries. Bryce Wickline passed for 42 yards in the setback.

Cooper was 6 of 11 passing for 135 yards and two touchdowns for the Bearcats. Grubb consumed 88 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown, and Cooper used 13 carries to cover 76 yards and scored three times.

The Bearcats (2-2, 1-0) travel to Adena (1-3, 1-0) next week, while the Mustangs (0-3, 0-1) host Southeastern (0-4, 0-1).
