Braves sweep twin bill from Southeastern

Logan Elm closed the week on Saturday by sweeping a non-league doubleheader 9-7 and 8-5 over the host Southeastern Panthers.

The Braves pushed across three insurance runs in the seventh to help secure the victory in the first game.

Ryleigh Wolfe led off the inning by lining a single to left and was joined on the base pads when Jacie Clifton singled to right one out later and Taylor Fowler reached on a fielder’s choice to load the sacks full of Braves.

Wolfe scored on a wild pitch and Tia Fowler followed with a two-run double to left to put the Braves ahead 9-5.

Logan Elm led for the entire game, jumping out to a 4-1 lead after three innings of play and 6-2 after four.

Meredith Jarvis went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and a run scored, Sadie Binkley also turned in a 2-for-4 opener with a triple, an RBI and three runs scored, and Clifton posted a 2-for-4 stat line that included an RBI and run scored.

Clifton earned the complete game win in the circle.

In game two, the Braves dug themselves out of an early 4-0 hole to sweep the twin bill 8-5 in five innings.

Lynsay VanHoose and Binkley reached on infield singles to third base and Jarvis drove in VanHoose one out later on an infield single to shortstop.

Binkley scored on a wild pitch and a ground out to short by Wolfe knocked in Jarvis, cutting the Southeastern lead to 4-3.

Logan Elm rallied with two outs in the third to score five times and seize the lead for good.

Jarvis lined a double to left with one out and was joined on the base pads when Gooley worked a walk.

Taylor Fowler then lined a double to left to chase home both runners and put the Braves in front 5-4.

Addie Smith knocked in Fowler when she lined a single to center and was joined on the bases when Kaitlyn Otterbacher worked a four-pitch walk.

VanHoose then lined a triple to left to drive in Smith and courtesy runner Katrina Wilson.

VanHoose paced the Braves by going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored and Jarvis also posted a 2-for-3 afternoon with an RBI and two runs scored.

Peyton Richendollar earned the complete game win in the circle for the Braves (8-4), who resume Mid-State League Buckeye Division play on Monday when they host Amanda-Clearcreek.
