Braves play long ball in rout of Falcons

Logan Elm smacked four homers on Thursday in a 14-0 Mid-State League Buckeye Division win over host Fairfield Union in five innings.

The Braves scored twice in their opening at-bat to take a 2-0 lead.

Sadie Binkley led off the game by lining a single to center and scored when Lynsay VanHoose deposited a 3-2 pitch over the left field fence.

Logan Elm expanded its advantage with a four-run third.

Binkley led off the inning by doubling to left, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when VanHoose legged out an infield single.

VanHoose stole second and scored on the combination of a single to left off the bat of Meredith Jarvis and an error.

Jacie Clifton followed with a single to right that chased home Jarvis.

Clifton eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Tia Fowler.

The Braves scored two more runs in the fourth on solo shots from VanHoose and Clifton and Taylor Fowler touched all four bags on a liner that cleared the center field fence.

VanHoose turned in a perfect 4-for-4 ledger that included six RBI and four runs scored, Binkley and Taylor Fowler each went 3-for-4, with Binkley scoring twice and Fowler scoring once and driving in a runner. Jarvis was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and Clifton went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Binkley tossed a two-hitter, walked two and struck out eight for the Braves (12-8, 6-6), who continue league play on Friday at Amanda-Clearcreek.
