Golden again: Vikings complete perfect MSL-Buckeye campaign

Teays Valley assembled 19 hits on Friday on its way to a 19-4 Mid-State League Buckeye Division win over host Hamilton Township.

The Vikings (24-4, 14-0) earned their second consecutive golden league championship and stretched their winning streak in league play to 30 games.

Teays Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first.

Morgan Cantrell doubled to left with one out and came around to score on a double to center off the bat of Isabel Sayre. Reagan Mengerink took her turn with a double of her own to center that chased home Sayre.

The Vikings stretched their advantage to 7-0 in the third.

Michelle Brumfield doubled to left and advanced to third when Cantrell singled to center.

After Cantrell swiped second base, Sayre followed with a single to center that drove in Brumfield.

Mengerink followed with a single to center that chased home both Cantrell and Sayre.

Mengerink took second on the throw to home plate, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on an error.

Aimee DeWeese scored the final run of the inning on an infield single by Miles.

Teays Valley scored five more runs in the fourth and added a touchdown and extra point in the fifth.

Cantrell turned in a perfect ledger going 4-for-4 and scoring four times. Mengerink was 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored, Sayre contributed a 3-for-4 evening with two RBI and four runs scored, Ari Miles went 3-for-4 and scored, and Abbi Revalee hit a homer as part of a 2-for-4 performance with four RBI and two runs scored.

Sydney Manring allowed six hits and four earned runs in a complete game effort. She walked two, hit a batter and struck out nine.

The Vikings are slated to host Olentangy Berlin (16-9) on Monday in a district semifinal.
