ASHVILLE — Logan Elm never trailed Monday in getting a 56-34 win over Westfall.
The Braves used a couple early turnovers to score the first five points and a strong finish to the first period had them up 13-6. The Braves took advantage of seven Westfall turnovers in the first period.
“We really wanted to try to pressure the basketball tonight,” LE coach Nate Dropsey said. “We need to try to get easier looks at the rim. We got off to a good start and I thought the kids executed that well at the beginning of the game.”
The Mustangs had a nice run in the second to close to within three midway through the period before LE closed the half scoring 11 of the last 14 points for a 30-19 lead. Owen Russell had nine points in the quarter for LE.

LE add three to its advantage in the third to lead 41-27.
“When we have all the guys working together and sharing, it makes it really fun,” Dropsey said.
“We got off the very sluggish start, but, you know, we’re telling them after the first quarter, at halftime we were still there, we kept contact with them, we were right in the game,” Westfall coach Kyle Joseph said. “In the end, we couldn’t rebound enough and, you know, every 50-50 ball, Logan Elm got all of them, and I know their second chance points had to be probably about half of their total.”
Russell led LE with 19 points on the way to being named the Braves’ Player of the Game. Bryan Craig was Westfall’s Player of the Game with team highs of 17 points and eight rebounds.
The back-to-back days of action have the Braves (4-3) playing Teays Valley (4-3) Tuesday afternoon at Circleville and the Mustangs (2-7) will be facing the Tigers (5-2).
“County games, they’re important to us. They’re important to all the county schools,” Dropsey said. “And obviously, now that we’re playing them as part of this Brad Morris Classic, it makes it even more special to us. And these are games that we want to go out and compete and have Brad smiling down on the ‘Bravos.’”
The back-to-back clashes with county schools comes at a tough time for the Mustangs who have had some illness running through their squad.
“We’ve got to go home, get hydrated, rest up, and just give it everything that we got tomorrow night,” Joseph said. “And then we kind of get a chance to regroup and get ready for the second half of the year.”

Logan Elm 80, Westfall 39 (girls)
ASHVILLE — Monday’s matchup started out fairly even before Logan Elm exploded in the second quarter on the way to an 80-39 win in the second contest at the Brad Morris Holiday Classic.
LE led 21-18 after the first quarter and then came out to score the first 14 points of the second on the way to making it a 54-25 score by the half.
Kiki Ingram had 17 of her game-high 32 points in the second quarter.
Led by four from Ingram, the Braves set a new school record in making 12 three-pointers Monday.
“I don’t think that we were forcing anything. I think that we were shooting the wide-open shots and contributing throughout that game,” LE coach Mike Schultz said. “We got out to a really healthy lead (12-2) and then we got into that little lackadaisical moment that Westfall started making a run and then we were able to respond.
“We gave up 18 in the first quarter and then we gave up 21 the rest of the game. So, our girls really responded.”

With 32 points in three quarters of play, Ingram was named Logan Elm’s Player of the Game while Reese Baughman was recognized for Westfall with 14 points.
Adrian Moehl pulled down nine rebounds to lead Westfall while Kimmy Petty, Kennedy Groff and Maleah Gardner each had five for LE.
