Tigers sweep Mustangs to wrap up Second Annual Brad Morris Holiday Classic

Circleville hosted Westfall for the final two matchups in the Second Annual Brad Morris Holiday Classic Tuesday night. The Tigers had both games under control by halftime.

Circleville 69, Westfall 37 (girls)

CIRCLEVILLE — Westfall had an early 3-2 lead, but Circleville quickly got out in front and kept the Mustangs in check on the way to a 69-37 win Tuesday in Day 2 of the Brad Morris Holiday Classic. 

A three from Reese Baughman had the Mustangs up 3-2 early in the first quarter and the game was tied a bit later at 5-5. Circleville scored 11 of the next 15 points to lead 16-8 after the first quarter. 

The Tigers had their lead up to 35-20 at the half and scored the last 12 points of the third to lead 59-31 heading into the final quarter.

Junior Addison Edgington led Circleville with 22 points and 10 rebounds Tuesday. 

Briley Cramer had a solid all-around effort in picking up Player of the Game honors for the Tigers. The sophomore had 14 points and five rebounds to go with a handful of assists and steals. 

Maddie Blakeman had 11 points and five rebounds for CHS.

Adrian Moehl had nine points and four rebounds in picking up Player of the Game honors for Westfall. 

Baughman, Kendall Moehl and Makenzie Cook each had eight points for Westfall. 

Circleville (7-1) is back in action Monday with a tough test at Unioto (7-1) while the Mustangs head to Grandview Heights on Jan. 2.

Circleville 62, Westfall 35 (boys)

CIRCLEVILLE — Circleville had a big second quarter to take control of the final game at the Brad Morris Holiday Classic on the way to defeating Westfall 62-35.

The Tigers closed out the final few seconds of the first quarter with five points to go up 19-14 and then scored the first 12 points of the second quarter. 

Circleville outscored the Mustangs 21-4 in the second to take a 40-18 lead to the locker room. 

The first six points of the second half were scored by the Tigers on the way to a 56-25 lead after three periods. 

Kole Nungester had 17 of his game-high 21 points in the first half to earn Player of the Game honors for Circleville. 

Ed Kirk had 15 points and Riley Jenkins had 11 with six rebounds for the Tigers. Blain Fowler added eight points and six rebounds. 

Bryan Craig had all seven of Westfall’s points in the third and led the Mustangs with 11 to earn Player of the Game for the Mustangs. 

Brock Williams and Gavin Packer each had six points and four rebounds for Westfall. 

With illness messing with Westfall’s lineup this week, the Mustangs (2-8) now have some time to rest and get healthy as they don’t play again until hosting Grove City Christian Jan. 3. 

Circleville (6-2) also has the rest of the year off with the Tigers’ next contest coming at Miami Trace on Jan. 3.
