Mustangs welcome five to HOF

WILLIAMSPORT — Prior to Friday night’s boys basketball game against Zane Trace, Westfall High School inducted five new members into its athletic hall of fame.

Mike Angles, a 2004 graduate, was a standout three-sport athlete in football, basketball and track, earning nine varsity letters and membership in the National Honor Society. 

A four-year football starter and two-year captain, he earned honors including First Team All-SVC, First Team All-Ohio Division IV, First Team All-Southeast District, All-Chillicothe Gazette First Team, and the Ohio High School Scholar-Athlete Award. He also set school records with 1,515 receiving yards, 19 touchdowns and 103 career receptions.

In basketball, he was a two-year captain, earned multiple All-SVC and district honors, and ranks among the program’s leaders in points, rebounds and career steals. Michael went on to play basketball at Ohio University–Chillicothe, scoring 1,187 points and serving as a two-year captain with Ohio Regional Campus Conference honorable mention recognition. He and his wife, Leslie Stanley Angles, live on their family farm with their children, Makiah and Carson. He remains active in church, community service, youth sports, and local leadership, and works as a test mechanic at Kenworth Truck Company.

Kevin Fox, a 1984 Westfall graduate, competed in baseball, track and football, earning varsity letters in track and football. 

As a senior, he served as co-captain of Westfall’s first 7-0 SVC championship football team and earned all-county, all-league, all-district and all-state honors, along with team MVP recognition. He was active in student leadership and academics, serving as senior class president and a member of the National Honor Society, and graduating with honors. 

Kevin attended Findlay College, earning a varsity track letter, then completed a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education at The Ohio State University and a master’s in educational supervision from the University of Dayton. 

His career included roles as a teacher, coach and administrator at Whitehall-Yearling and Circleville City Schools, where he served until his retirement in 2022; he currently works part-time with the Pickaway County ESC. Kevin lives in Circleville with his wife of 36 years, Mindy. He and his wife have two daughters — Rachel, who lives in Circleville with her husband, Alex Elsea, and Lauren, who lives in Kailua, Oahu, with her husband, Tyler Green. They also have three grandchildren: Jaxon, Savannah and Jude Elsea.

Dale Runkle, a 1981 graduate, was a four-year varsity letter winner in football and baseball. He earned All-Pickaway County and All-SVC honors, was Westfall’s defensive MVP in 1979 and 1980, and was named SVC Lineman of the Year in 1980. He also served as president of the Varsity W Club. Runkle went on to start four years of football at Capital University, earning four varsity letters and conference honors, including Second Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Offensive Player of the Year in 1984. 

Runkle now lives in Sugar Hill, Georgia, with his wife, Patty. They have four children — Leslie, Chelsea, Danny, and Lindsey — and six grandchildren. He spent 20 years in management at Amoco Oil Company and another 20 years at The Kroger Company. Dale credits his time at Westfall with teaching him discipline and hard work, values he is proud to have passed on to his children. 

Carl Strittmatter, a 1977 graduate, has been a pillar of the Westfall community for nearly six decades as a student-athlete, coach, mentor and supporter. In high school, he was a three-year varsity football letterman, earning All-SVC honors, the Most Valuable Lineman award and the American Legion All-County Offense Award, while also serving as Senior Class President and as a member of the National Honor Society. 

After graduation, Carl went on to influence generations of students through his leadership and coaching. Over 13 seasons in football, he helped lead teams to five SVC championships, four Gold Footballs, an undefeated season and the first state playoff appearance in Pickaway County history. In softball, he helped lead the program to the SVC and sectional championships in 2002. Widely respected for his guidance and character, Strittmatter has made a lasting impact on countless athletes and families. A retired Kenworth Truck Company employee, he continues to support Westfall schools and community programs through ongoing service and generosity. He lives in the Westfall district with his wife, Brenda. His daughter, Rachel, is a fellow Westfall graduate and resides in New Albany.

Makenzie Wippel-Mast, a 2010 graduate, earned 11 varsity letters in basketball, softball and volleyball. A standout student-athlete and multiple SVC All-Academic honoree, she continued her education and basketball career at Wilmington College, where she became a three-year starter for the Lady Quakers. 

In basketball, Makenzie was a four-year starter who led the Mustangs in scoring and rebounding, earning All-SVC and All-Pickaway County honors, OHSBCA District 14 All-Star, and All-Southeast District Special Mention honors. 

In softball, she was a four-year starter and key offensive leader, earning All-SVC honors. In volleyball, she helped guide Westfall to back-to-back district championships while earning district and league recognition. 

At Wilmington College, Makenzie was a four-year team member, three-year starter, and All-OAC honoree. She now serves as an Intervention Specialist at Eastland Career Center. Makenzie is married to her high school sweetheart, Ryan Mast, and they have three sons: Nolan, Maylan and Evan.
