Nungester tops 1,000 in Tigers win over LE; Vikings fall at Thomas Worthington

CIRCLEVILLE — Circleville held visiting Logan Elm to six points over the last 10 minutes to turn a deficit into a 53-47 win Saturday afternoon. 

On the way, Circleville senior Kole Nungester etched his name in the record book as he scored his 1,000th point during the contest. 

The Braves had built a nice lead in the third period as Brady Neff capped a 12-point third quarter with a free throw at the 2:04 mark to make it 41-30 in favor of the Braves. 

Over those final two minutes, the Tigers closed the gap and Blain Fowler hit a three at the buzzer to make it 41-39. 

A layup from Nungester 33 seconds into the fourth tied the game and took him to 1,001 points for his career. He hit a free throw a minute later to give Circleville the lead and the Tigers never trailed again.

Nungester finished with 18 points and 1,004 in his career. 

Fowler added 11 for the Tigers. 

Neff led the Braves with 23. 

Circleville (13-2, 6-1) is scheduled to host Hamilton Township Tuesday and Logan Elm (6-9, 3-4) is set to host Lberty Union that night.

Thomas Worthington 57, Teays Valley 39

WORTHINGTON — Thomas Worthington bounced back from a slow start to beat visiting Teays Valley 57-39 Saturday afternoon. 

The Vikings were up 11-4 after the first period but the Cardinals scored 22 in the second to go in up 26-25.

A 14-8 third had TW up 40-33.

Kaden Purdon led the Vikings with 20 points with Brody Fields adding eight.

Jayce Harris led Thomas Worthington with 26.

Teays Valley (7-9) hosts Groveport-Madison Friday.
