BEDFORD, PA —It was a big weekend for Orient’s Trent Tipton.
The West Virginia University senior set course and school records as the Mountaineers held the season’s first qualifier.
Tipton, a graduate of Bishop Hartley High School, shot a five-under 67 in the qualifier’s first round.
His big day came in the second round when he set the course record at the 127-year-old Bedford Springs Resort when he carded a 12-under 60.
Tipton’s third round was a 69 which gave him WVU’s 54-hole qualifying record at 20-under par.
The two-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 selection will lead the Mountaineers golf team into the 14-team Minnesota Gopher Invitational in September.
Trent is the son of Gary and Jenny Tipton.
