LANCASTER — A quick start propelled Logan Elm to a 48-21 win at Fairfield Union Friday as the Braves remained unbeaten.
“We played good defense early on. They run a power scheme and we forced several punts in the first quarter, then we turned around and had several big plays and scored quick,” LE coach Terry Holbert told WKKJ’s Scoreboard Show.
That first quarter saw Landon Thompson score on a 75-yard run, a three-yard run (set up by a 50-yard completion to Carson Summers) and a five-yard run (set up by a 73-yard completion to Summers). The Braves were 2 of 3 on their PAT attempts for a 20-0 lead.
Keegan Diehl caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Walters in the second quarter and, thanks to Dawsen Hudson’s kick, led 27-20 at the break.
The Falcons broke their scoring drought in the second half scoring the first two touchdowns of the third quarter — one on a 32-yard pass play and the other on a 38-yard run.
“We got a little complacent for a while. They came out of the break and scored twice pretty quick,” Holbert said. “Our kids really responded well after that point and scored a few more times and put the game away.”
Summers caught a nine-yard TD pass from Walters late in the third and Michael Bock scored on a 55-yard run early in the fourth for a 40-14 LE lead.
After a four-yard rushing TD for the Falcons, LE’s Austin Holbrook capped the scoring with a one-yard run for the Braves.
Thompson led the Braves with 139 yards on 14 carries while Bock was close behind with 129 on 11 totes.
Walters threw for 242 yards with Summers grabbing three balls for 132 yards. Hunter Kersey had four catches for 70.
Logan Elm (5-0, 2-0) is on the road again next week taking on Liberty Union (0-5, 0-2). The Lions lost a 35-15 contest at Bloom-Carroll (4-1, 2-0) Friday.
