An action-packed final two minutes went in favor of visiting Hamilton Township Saturday afternoon as the Rangers escaped from Logan Elm with a 34-33 win.
Logan Elm was down 10 early in the fourth and came back to tie the game on a three-pointer from the corner by Brody Sabine to make the score 30-30 with 1:24 left.
Hamilton Township’s outstanding sophomore guard Jovon McBride drove the lane, missed the shot but got his own rebound and put it back up to put the Rangers back on top 32-30 with 42 seconds left.
Logan Elm came down and Nemiah Waugh found Tyler Speas in the right corner who connected on his sixth three-pointer of the day to give the Braves a 33-32 lead with 33 seconds on the clock.
McBride made another drive and was fouled with 12.8 seconds on the clock. He sunk the two free throws on both sides of a timeout to put HT back on top.
LE got shots off from Waugh and then Speas. HT’s Jayden Jarrell grabbed the rebound on the second miss but a held ball with .2 seconds gave the Braves one last chance. The tip on the inbounds play hit off the backboard and went off the front of the rim.
McBride was the game’s top scorer with 24 points.
Speas led the Braves with 18 points, Waugh had 12 and Sabine had three.
Logan Elm (4-12, 2-6) hosts Chillicothe Tuesday. The Rangers (8-6, 5-3) host Westland Wednesday.
