Mustangs win two this weekend, Vikings beat Watterson, LE falls to BC, quick start lifts Lions over Aces

Westfall picked up wins 12 and 13 over the weekend at Huntington and hosting Lynchburg-Clay.

After a 12-12 first quarter at Huntington Friday, the Mustangs outscored their hosts 43-19 in the middle periods on the way to a 62-46 victory.

Brody Clark had 15 of his 21 in the first half for Westfall and Jeremiah Layton added 12. 

Saturday night it was a battle of the Mustangs as Westfall welcomed in Lynchburg-Clay. 

The visiting Mustangs had a 33-28 halftime lead, but Westfall got to work in the second half to grab a 55-51 win. 

Clark had 10 in the third quarter to help his Mustangs take a 43-42 lead and he finished the night with 29 points. 

Layton had six in the fourth quarter as part of a 19-point effort for Westfall. 

Westfall (13-5, 8-2) returns to the hardwood Tuesday night with the top of the league standings on the line as Unioto (12-5, 8-1) comes for a visit.

Vikings keep Eagles in check

ASHVILLE — Teays Valley bounced back from a slow start to beat visiting Bishop Watterson 51-27 Saturday afternoon. 

After only scoring four points in the first quarter to trail 5-4, Teays Valley put up 20 in the second while still limiting the Eagles to six. 

Alyssa Horsley had seven in the second and Kennedy Younkin had six to help TV get out in front 24-11. 

The Vikings were busy at the free throw line in the second half as they converted 16 of 18 opportunities.

After allowing the Eagles (13-6) 14 points in the third period, TV clamped down on its defense to yield only two points in the final eight minutes. 

“It was a great win for our team and program,” TV coach Trevor Younkin said. “Our defense was extremely effective, and our offense was well executed. We held a team that averages 43 points a game to just 27 points.”

Alyssa Horsley led the Vikings (12-6) with 17 points, Kennedy Younkin had 16 and Tessa Horsley had 10. 

“We played extremely well on both ends of the floor,” coach Younkin said. “We shared the ball well. 

“It was definitely a team win versus a great opponent.”

The Vikings travel to Amanda-Clearcreek Tuesday.

LE fights back but can’t overtake Bulldogs

Bloom-Carroll held off Logan Elm to grab a 48-44 win Saturday. 

The game was tied 20-20 in the second quarter and BC scored the final six of the half to lead 26-20. The Bulldogs (12-6, 8-3) continued their run in the second half scoring the first nine points of the third quarter to get up 35-20. 

LE battled back to make the score 37-30 after the third period and got as close as four points several times in the fourth. 

Ne’miah Waugh led the Braves with 15 points Saturday and Brody Sabine added 12.

Carson Davis led BC with 16 points – 14 in the first half – and Jackson Wyant put in 10. 

The Braves (7-11, 4-7) host Liberty Union Friday.

Quick start lifts Lions over Aces

AMANDA — Liberty Union got out to an early lead on the way to picking up a 61-42 win over host Amanda-Clearcreek Saturday night. 

The Lions (7-11, 5-7) jumped out to a 15-2 lead and were up 17-7 after the first quarter. A close second quarter had LU’s lead at 27-18 at halftime. 

The Lions ended AC’s hopes by outscoring their hosts 21-6 to move the lead to 48-24.

Carter Madison led the Aces with 15 points, Maddox Cupp put in 11 and Logan Stevens had 10. 

The Aces (1-18, 0-11) are at Bloom-Carroll Friday.
