Circleville advances in tourney; LE has season come to a close

KINNIKINNICK  — Circleville had a big third quarter to take control of Thursday night’s sectional contest to beat Vinton County 47-28.

With an 18-12 lead at the half, Circleville (22-0) scored the first 14 points of the third quarter and finished the period with a 34-15 lead. 

Maddie Blakeman led the Tigers 17 points, Gabby McConnell had 15 and Faith Yancey put in 11. Ally Thornsley added four to finish up the Tigers’ scoring. 

Circleville has a regular season contest left with Chillicothe on Saturday. 

The No. 2 seed Tigers return to Southeast District Division II tournament action on Feb. 24 at noon taking on No. 7 Athens at Southeastern High School.

Logan Elm falls to Marietta

ALBANY — Logan Elm saw its season wrap up in the Division II Southeast District tournament Thursday as the 12th-seeded Braves fell to No. 5 Marietta 51-37.

Logan Elm led 9-8 after the first quarter and Marietta was up 19-17 at the half.

Marietta upped its edge to 25-17 early in the third and the Braves came back to tie the score at 25-25, but the next 14 points belonged to the Tigers and the Braves weren’t able to recover at that point.

Kiannah Ingram led the Braves with 20 points and Kimmy Petty had eight.

Logan Elm completes its season with a 10-13 record. 

Marietta (19-4) advances to a district semifinal against No. 4 Unioto – a 67-27 winner over McClain.
