WORTHINGTON — Amanda-Clearcreek’s season came to an end Tuesday night as the Aces left Worthington Christian on the short side of a 64-27 final score.
“It was really hard to get into anything offensively. We were constantly trying to break that pressure,” AC coach Jamie Justus said. “I thought we did a decent job but once we did break it, we were sped up and made some bad decisions. They made it very difficult tonight to get into any type of flow offensively.”
It took the Warriors a few minutes to get their offense going, but they had their defense working from the start as they forced the Aces into 11 turnovers in the first quarter. With a 5-4 lead with 90 second left in the first, WC’s Logan Woloshan hit two three and four free throws to push his team to a 15-4 lead.
A three from AC’s Carter Madison at the buzzer made it 15-7.
Worthington Christian outscored AC 10-2 to start the second and held a 37-22 lead at the break.
A 12-2 start to the second half pushed Worthington Christian out to a 49-24 lead and the quarter ended with the score at 60-27.
Tuesday’s contest wrapped up the Aces season with a 1-22 mark. While the record wasn’t what the Aces were looking for, Justus said the players gave it their all.
“The effort has always been there,” Justus said. “About the halfway point, offensively it started coming together a little as the season went on.
“The guys kept working hard every day and the attitudes were good.”
The Aces were led Tuesday by Carter Madison with 14 points and Colton Westhoven had nine with seven rebounds.
The Warriors were led by Samuel Johnson with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Woloshan finished with 14 points and Jonah Lewis had 11 points. Sam Sarfo pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Aces say goodbye to senior Colton Toill from the squad.
“I’ve been around Colton since I started coaching here. I’ve coached him in baseball several years,” Justus said. “He came in every day and worked hard. He understood his role. His attitude was good, and he gave us a good look every day in practice and worked hard for us. I’ve been around Colton my entire five years at Amanda, and I can’t say enough good things about him.”
The No. 5 seed Warriors (19-4) take on No. 18 Madison Plains in the next round of the Division III tournament.
