Shermans top Mustangs in 8 for SVC crown; TV takes down Tigers; Braves fall in tight game to Bulldogs; Aces lose to Lions

SB — Unioto 9, Westfall 8 (8 innings)

WILLIAMSPORT — Westfall put the pressure on Unioto, but a run in the eighth inning kept the Shermans unbeaten in SVC play with a 9-8 win.

Alexis Book hit a leadoff home run in the top of the eighth and Hannah Hull didn’t let a two-out double bother her as she got Westfall (7-10, 7-6) to ground out on the next pitch to end the game.

The win moves the Shermans (18-3) to 13-0 in the SVC and clinches the outright league title. Only second-place Adena (11-2) stands between the Shermans and gold softball for an undefeated league season.

Both teams scored in the first and then Unioto scored four times in the third – including a three-run home run from Abbi Marshall – and three in the fourth to go up 8-1.

Westfall started coming back in the fifth when Delana Landefeld hit a two-run double and then later scored on a steal of home to make the score 8-4.

Ava Heath came through with a two-run double in the sixth to close to 8-6.

A two-out single in the bottom of the seventh from Joni Snyder brought in two more runs to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

SB — Teays Valley 3, Circleville 1

ASHVILLE — Teays Valley limited visiting Circleville to a single hit on the way to a 3-1 win Monday afternoon.

Alyvia Lawrentz started for the Vikings (13-5, 8-2) and had her only real issues in the first inning.

Claire Davis led off the game with Circleville’s lone hit and all three of Lawrentz’s walks came in the first – the last one forcing in the Tigers’ run.

Lawrentz faced only three batters in her next five innings of work.

Avery Stratton pitched the seventh to earn the save. She allowed a walk and struck out two.

The first out was recorded when Mann tried to score on a passed ball.

Mann then doubled to center to bring in Lawrentz and tie the game.

Aimee DeWeese had an infield single and a single to center from Michelle Brumfield drove in TV’s second run.

After Isabel Sayre drew a walk, Abbi Revalee hit into what would be an inning-ending double play, but DeWeese scored before the second out was made to give TV a 3-1 lead.

TV loaded the bases with one out in the fifth but was unable to get a run across.

Gabby McConnell pitched for the Tigers (10-8, 8-4), giving up seven hits, walking two and striking out five.
