BB — Teays Valley 4, Circleville 1
CIRCLEVILLE — For the second time in as many days Circleville and Teays Valley met up on the baseball diamond. And, for the second time, it was Teays Valley coming out on top. Tuesday’s matchup saw TV claim a 4-2 victory.
The Vikings (9-10, 6-4) began play hitting three consecutive singles to load the bases and then took a 1-0 lead when Landon Vandegrift hit a sacrifice fly to score Westin Woodrum.
TV started the second inning loading the bases on an error, a walk and a single.
After a strikeout, Woodrum came to the plate and hit a double to right that brought in two runs. A groundout from Trevor Hamilton brought in another Viking for a 4-0 lead.
Circleville (8-11, 6-7) got its first run in the fifth inning. Hunter Phalin hit a one-out double and took third on a fielder’s choice. A wild pitch allowed Phalin to score.
In the sixth inning, Drew Thornsley hit a two-out single and took second on a passed ball. Brody Brisker then singled to right and Thornsley came around to score.
Circleville got two runners on in the seventh but was unable to add any more runs to its total.
Both teams had solid pitching performances.
Tyler Mathews went the distance for the Vikings. He gave up two runs on five hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.
JD Reuter pitched all seven innings for the Tigers. He allowed four runs (two earned) on nine hits with two walks and struck out six.
SB — Teays Valley 14, Fairfield Union 0 (5 innings)
ASHVILLE — Morgan Cantrell went over the fence twice to help power her Teays Valley team to a 14-0 win over visiting Fairfield Union in five innings.
In the bottom of the first, Alyvia Lawrentz led off with a single and then Cantrell hit one over the fence in left for a a quick 2-0 lead.
Three more hits, an error and a hit batter helped the Vikings bring four more runs across the plate.
Cantrell led off the second with a solo home run – this time to center.
TV (14-5, 9-2) added two more runs on an RBI single and a fielder’s choice for a 9-0 lead after two.
Three of the first four TV batters reached on walks to start the third.
Singles from Aimee DeWeese and Michelle Brumfield brought in three more runs and then an error on a fly ball to left field accounted for two more runs scoring and a 14-0 TV lead.
DeWeese had three hits for TV and Brumfield had two.
Isabell Sayre pitched the shutout for the Vikings. She gave up three hits and struck out one.
SB — Bloom-Carroll 14, Logan Elm 3
CIRCLEVILLE — Bloom-Carroll got out to the early lead held off Logan Elm for a 14-3 win.
The Bulldogs got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks, in part, to a two-run home run from Claire Whitcraft.
Three hits, a walk and an error helped BC (13-9, 8-5) score four more time in the second.
LE (15-7, 8-5) scored twice in the third on back-to-back RBI singles from Ryleigh Wolfe and Jaycie Clifton.
BC added a run in the fourth and LE answered with another RBI single from Wolfe.
A pair of one-out singles set up another run for the Bulldogs on a passed ball and a ground out for a 10-3 lead.
Four hits to open the sixth, a walk and a groundout led to four more runs for the Bulldogs.
Peyton Richendollar started for the Braves and pitched 4.1 innings. She gave up nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits with two walks and struck out four.
Wolfe pitched 1.2 innings in relief. She gave up five earned runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
