Mustangs blank PV; Vikings in control at Lancaster; Aces fall to BC

Westfall 35, Paint Valley 0

BAINBRIDGE — Westfall’s defense kept Paint Valley in check while Westfall ran all over the Bearcats to open the SVC schedule with a 35-0 win.

After losing starting QB AJ Paudicz to a broken collarbone last week, the Mustangs were run heavy Friday as 28 of their 32 plays were rushes.

Westfall got off to a quick start when Joey Wright ran the opening kickoff back 58 yards to the Bearcats’ 22. Five plays later, he scored from four yards out.

Paint Valley put together a couple of first downs before the drive stalled.

The punt pinned Westfall inside its own 10 and then a penalty made it first down at the Westfall 3. Quinn Eberly, playing under center, took that first down snap and ran it 97 yards for a 14-0 lead with 5:24 left in the first.

After earning two first downs, the Bearcats fumbled and Westfall’s Mason Halderman recovered.

The teams traded punts before Westfall had an eight-play drive that wrapped up with Eli Wright scoring from three yards out two minutes into the second quarter.

The Bearcats turned the ball over on downs on their own 44 and, a few plays later, Joey Wright ran it in from 23 yards out for a 28-0 lead with four minutes left in the half.

The Bearcats had the ball to start the second half. They picked up one first down but a 15-yard penalty backed them up. Facing a fourth-and-23, PV’s punt covered only six yards to give the ball to Westfall at the PV 32.

Three plays later, Joey Wright ran it in from a yard out to make it 35-0 and start the running clock.

Anchored by the 97-yard TD, Eberly was Westfall’s leading rusher with 133 yards on 10 carries. Joey Wright had 95 yards on nine totes to go with three touchdowns.

Eberly was 3-4 passing for 27 yards with Landen Sparks catching two balls for 23.

The Bearcats threw for 168 yards but netted negative 11 yards on the ground.

The Mustangs (3-1, 1-0) host Southeastern (2-2, 0-1) next week.

Teays Valley 37, Lancaster 14

LANCASTER — Teays Valley got out in front early and never trailed Friday in opening league play with a 37-14 win at Lancaster Friday.

The Vikings took the opening drive down the field with Peter Grahm scoring from 10 yards out.

Folling a Lancaster punt, the Vikings moved the ball to the red zone again — this time using a Calvin Videkovich 26-yard field goal to take a 9-0 lead.

Both drives were done completely on the ground.

Lancaster scored early in the second on a three-yard run from Jahmeir Gordon.

A few plays later, TV made it 16-7 when Cavin McDowell got behind the defense and Brady Farmer connected with him for a 34-yard touchdown.

With time winding down in the first half, Lancaster’s Jack Pompey hit Kamrom Griffith in the endzone for a four-yard score and closed the difference to 16-14.

Defense and special teams set the scene in the second half.

TV’s Camron Payne had a pick-six two minutes into the second half.

Spike Woods then recovered a Lancaster fumble on the kickoff to give the Vikings a short field. A few plays later, Woods went in from three yards out for a 30-14 lead.

The scoring wrapped up with about five minutes left in the game when Farmer connected with Tommy Kozlowski for a 20-yard score.

Next up for the Vikings (3-1, 1-0) is a visit from Reynoldsburg (0-4, 0-1).

Bloom-Carroll 16, Amanda-Clearcreek 6

AMANDA — After starting out with three road games, Amanda-Clearcreek hosted Bloom-Carroll in the Pit Friday night, but it was the Bulldogs coming out on the favorable end of a 16-6 score.

BC held a 3-0 lead at halftime and made it 9-0 when Jalen Cline scored late in the third.

The Bulldogs added another rushing touchdown in the fourth before the Aces broke through with a five-yard run from Tommy Stai.

AC (1-3, 0-1) heads to Circleville (4-0, 1-0) next week.
