No. 3 Teays Valley 66, No. 11 Logan 30
ASHVILLE — Teays Valley came out on fire Tuesday night advancing past visiting Logan 66-30 Tuesday night in the Central District Division II tournament.
“I talked all week about having that killer instinct in us and keeping the gas pedal to the floor and maintaining the lead that we have, continue to build on it, and they really dug deep tonight and found that,” TV coach Tracy Rieke said. “They never let up, battled through their runs, and the push in transition was something that we wanted to do and we did it well tonight, and our defense led to our offense,”
Cami Robins scored eight seconds into the game and, after a Logan turnover, hit a three 20 seconds later. Another basket from Robins plus threes from Areyana Karshner and Cooper McManaway had the Vikings leading 13-5 three minutes into the contest.
By the time the quarter was over, TV was up 27-9, with 12 coming as a result of Logan turnovers.
Robins had 12 of TV’s 27 points in the opening frame.
“It’s phenomenal. It was much needed for her,” Rieke said. “She is our engine, she’s our spark. She got us going and everybody fed off of that. So, kudos to Cami, she’s one best point guards in the league.”

The third-seeded Vikings had a little slower start to the second quarter but finished strong and were up 41-14 at the half.
Eight points from Avery Mann, seven from Kenzington Younkin and two from Tessa Horsley in the third quarter pushed TV’s lead to 58-22. With a pair of free throws from Mann as the third was winding down, the Vikings activated the running clock, which was in effect for the fourth quarter.
“That’s something that I harp on, playing down to another team’s level. You know, we have to play our basketball, our game and maintain that for all four quarters. And I think, for the most part, we did that tonight,” Rieke said about not letting up or getting sloppy with the ball after jumping out to the big lead.
Robins had all of her points in the first half in leading TV with 17.
Ella Hinton had 18 points to lead the Chieftains.

The Vikings ended the night with a 36-21 rebounding edge led by Karshner and Horsley with six each.
Rivals in the OCC, this was the third time the Vikings (15-7) and Chieftains (7-17) had met with Teays Valley winning by 14 and six points in those previous matchups.
It’s on now to the Taft Coliseum at the Ohio Expo Center for a Friday night district finals matchup with No. 4 seed Westerville Central.
“It’s exciting, you know, we’ve got a chance to do something that hasn’t been done in 30 years, I think, win a district championship,” Rieke said. “The girls are excited. There’s a lot of energy in the locker room right now.”
The district championship is expected to tip at 8:15 p.m. Friday.
