Tigers lay claim to first district title since 1997

No. 1 Circleville 51, No. 4 Waverly 42

ATHENS — Circleville’s boys took down Waverly Thursday night to win the program’s first Southeast District championship since 1997.

Three players were in double figures for the Circleville Tigers as they beat the Waverly Tigers 51-42.

Seniors Kole Nungester and Jack Kline led the way 17 and 16 points, respectively. Junior Blain Fowler added 10.

Senior Riley Jenkins led Circleville with nine rebounds to go with seven points. 

Sophomore Kage Alexander was Waverly’s top scorer with 21 points.

Circleville (22-2) will return to Ohio University’s Convocation Center Wednesday to play a Division IV regional semifinal against Unioto – a team they beat in double overtime three weeks ago. That game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
