Vikings lock down Rangers

Teays Valley held visiting Hamilton Township to just eight field goals on Friday to give its five seniors a 54-24 Mid-State League Buckeye Division win on their evening.

The Vikings went ahead 13-5 after a quarter of play and pushed their advantage to 25-8 at intermission and 39-13 going into the final period of play.

“We had senior night and started our five seniors,” Teays Valley coach Brian Barnett said. “We were able to jump out to a early lead and not look back. I thought that at times we played really well and pressured Hamilton into turnovers and easy baskets for us.”

Garrett Meddock led all scorers with 16 points for the Vikings, and Liam Sachs and Eli Burgett added six points apiece.

“We got solid games from Liam Sachs and Freshman Luke Sachs, both played real hard,” Barnett said. “Luke did a nice job of taking care of the basketball and getting us into our offense. Defensively, Luke was real active and caused their guards a lot of problems. Liam did a great job on the offensive end of the floor. He grab a bunch of offensive rebounds and his constant movement lead to easy scores for him or a assist to his teammates.

“Junior Reese Sauerbrun did a nice job on both ends of the floor. Reese has a high basketball IQ and his motor allows him to be involved in a lot of plays. It was nice to see Garrett start to get his legs back after his long layoff. I was pleased with the way he played tonight.”

The Vikings (3-4, 3-2) are right back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host New Albany for a non-league game.
