Liberty Union scored 15 second-quarter points on Friday and didn’t look back in a 31-0 Mid-State League Buckeye Division win over visiting Logan Elm.
Jack Brown completed 11 of 18 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown for the Lions, with 6-6 wide receiver Jacob Denney catching eight of those passes for 86 yards and a score.
Denney proved his big-play ability on special teams with a 64-yard punt return that put the Lions ahead 7-0. Brown then found Denney later in the period on a 20-yard touchdown strike to make it 15-0, following the two-point conversion toss from Landon Piccirillo to Brendyn Ragan.
Liberty Union’s defense then scored nine points in the third quarter on an interception return from Braden Shreyer and a safety.
Barrett Young capped scoring in the fourth quarter on a one-yard plunge over the goal line.
Liberty Union outgained Logan Elm 160-138.
Freshman quarterback Aaron Walters was 11 of 23 passing for 92 yards for the Braves. Blayton Reid rushed for 37 yards on 19 carries.
The Braves (3-4, 1-3) host defending league champion Bloom-Carroll (7-0, 4-0) next week, while the Lions (3-4, 1-3) travel to Fairfield Union (2-5, 1-3).
