CARROLL — Bloom-Carroll slammed the door shut on Teays Valley’s hopes of a league championship Friday night.

The Bulldogs (9-0, 6-0) kept the Vikings (8-1, 5-1) from converting a first down until the fourth quarter on the way to a 49-0 win.

After trading a couple possessions to start the game, the Bulldogs took control.

BC made it to the end zone on its third possession on a one-yard run by quarterback KJ Benedict with 2:09 left in the first.

BC’s next five possessions also ended with touchdowns.

Chase Plantz scored from three yards out, Dylan Armentrout from five yards, then Armentrout broke a 75-yard scoring run and Plantz had a 15-yard score to put the advantage at 35-0 at halftime. BC’s first possession of the second half ended with Benedict connecting with Branson Dodds on an 18-yard score.

The Bulldogs’ final score came in the fourth quarter when it looked like the Vikings might crack the scoreboard. On fourth-and-three from the seven-yard line, Carter Bepler intercepted a Vikings’ pass and ran it back 98 yards to close out the game’s scoring.

Despite the disappointment, Teays Valley coach Mark Weber said he focused on reminding his team there is still more football to play and a win next week should have the Vikings positioned to host a first-round playoff game.

“You’re 8-1, now where do you go from here?” he said he told his team. “You get to get back up and play Friday. There are no injuries, everyone’s back. It’s OK, we took a loss, and everybody just relax. That was my message.

“We get so caught up in the moment — think about the (big) picture.”

BC ended the night with 383 yards of offense while TV had 125, though most of that came in the fourth quarter.

“When they get out to this field, we’ve got to play every down like it’s our last down,” Weber said. “That’s how Bloom-Carroll played — they played every down like it’s their last down.

“It’s a good lesson learned. We’ll bounce back and play football again next Friday.”
