New Hope Christian Academy had both varsity basketball teams in action Friday to start off the Zane Trace Tip Off Classic.
New Hope’s girls fell to host Zane Trace in the first game while the boys followed with a win over Berne Union in the second.

New Hope 51, Berne Union 44
KINNIKINNICK — Lane Brunning scored six of his 15 points in a seven-second span to help New Hope to a 51-44 win over Berne Union at the Zane Trace Tip Off Classic Friday.Â
Brunning was fouled trying to score and then a technical foul was assessed against the same player as 1:57 showed on the clock. Brunning hit all four free throws and then got the inbounds pass, took it the basket and made the layup to give the Statesmen a 49-42 lead.
A basket from Ethan Cook with 1:08 on the clock wrapped up the scoring for New Hope.
Cook had 11 for New Hope and Marek McCallister added 10.
Brea Friesner led the Rockets with 12 points while Sammy Amnam added 11.
New Hope got out to a 10-2 lead in the first quarter and led 11-7 at the end of the period.
The Rockets tied the game twice in the second, but the Statesmen were up 25-21 at the half.
Berne Union took a brief lead in the third period, but a technical foul called on another of their players kicked off eight straight points for New Hope and the Statesmen never trailed again.

Zane Trace 66, New Hope 54
KINNIKINNICK — Zane Trace separated itself from visiting New Hope Christian Academy to start the second half on the way to a 66-54 win to kick off the Zane Trace Tip Off Classic Friday afternoon.
Kinley May had five of her 12 points to open the third quarter and Alara Crow had seven of her 13 late in the period as the Pioneers turned a six-point advantage into a 16-point lead heading into the final period.
The Statesmen took small runs at the Pioneers in the fourth but were never able to get the differential back into single digits.
Maren McAllister led the Statesmen with 33 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to earn player of the game honors for her team.
Crow’s team-high 13 points and seven rebounds earned her player of the game for the Pioneers. May and Gracey McCullough each had 12 for the Pioneers. Alexis Farley led ZT with eight rebounds.
Jenna Tripp had 10 to pace New Hope.Â
