Monday’s roundup: Braves rout Berne Union in season-opener

Logan Elm scored the first 20 points of a non-league game on Monday to hand visiting Berne Union a 61-12 setback.
Five players reached the scoring column for the Braves in the first quarter as they shot 11 of 15 (73.3 percent) from the field and took a 25-4 lead after a period of play.
Tanner Holbert led the way with 13 of his game-high 30 points. Holbert finished the night shooting 12 of 20 (60 percent) from the field. Braylen Baker scored six of his 14 points in the opening frame and canned seven of nine (77.8 percent) shots overall from the field.
Logan Elm extended its lead to 38-10 at halftime and 52-12 after three quarters of play.
Konnor Starkey added nine points for the Braves, who shot 27 of 43 (62.8 percent) from the field.
Ben Leisure had four points to lead the Rockets (0-2), who finished the game with 21 turnovers.
The Braves (1-0) open Mid-State League Buckeye Division play on Saturday when they host Teays Valley for an afternoon matinee.
