Braves pull away from Mustangs in second half

Tanner Holbert erupted for 15 of his game-high 20 points in the second half on Tuesday, helping Logan Elm to a 51-39 non-league win over host Westfall.
The Braves entered the second half with a slim 21-20 lead, but outscored the Mustangs 18-11 in the third quarter. Holbert knocked down all three field goals he attempted in the period and finished the quarter with nine points, and Braylen Baker added a pair of baskets.
Logan Elm shot 7 of 8 (87.5 percent) overall from the field in the third quarter and 19 of 35 (54.3 percent) for the game.
Holbert had six points in the final stanza and Baker tossed in another four to help the Braves wrap-up the win.
Baker tallied 12 points for the Braves, Konnor Starkey had nine and Drew Tomlinson added six. Holbert and Baker each pulled down eight rebounds.
Trevor Wolfe and Casey Cline led the Mustangs with 13 points apiece. The Braves held Wolfe scoreless in the second half. Brody Clark followed with 10.
The Braves (6-1) host Fairfield Union on Thursday for a Mid-State League Buckeye Division game, while the Mustangs (2-4) continue non-conference play the same day as they host New Hope.
Huntington 43,
Circleville 37

Circleville was unable to overcome a slow start on Tuesday in a -37 non-league loss to host Huntington.
The Huntsmen held an 18-9 lead at halftime and expanded that advantage to 31-17 entering the final period, where the Tigers finally got their offense going with 20 points.
Craig Fleck scored 11 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Tigers and Briley Cramer had five of his nine points in the final period.
The Tigers (3-5) hosts Liberty Union on Thursday for an MSL-Buckeye clash.
Girls Basketball
Teays Valley 48,
Circleville 22

Teays Valley turned it on after the first quarter on Tuesday to record a 48-22 MSL-Buckeye win over host Circleville.
The Vikings held an 8-6 lead after a quarter of play, and expanded that advantage to 20-11 at intermission and 31-19 going into the final period of play.
Kennedy Younkin paced the Vikings with 10 points, Aly Williard had nine, and Ashley DeWeese and Alyssa Horsley scored eight apiece.
Logan Jones scored nine points, Lily Winter had six and Faith Yancey added four for the Tigers.
Circleville (4-5, 2-4) travels to Logan on Monday for a non-league game, while Teays Valley (8-2, 5-1) hosts Newark on Tuesday also in a non-league clash.
New Hope Christian 38,
Calvary Christian 20

A 16-point outburst in the first quarter gave host New Hope a comfortable early lead en route to a 38-20 win over Calvary Christian.
Maren McCallister had 11 of her game-high 20 points during the run and Eden Leist tossed in five of her 13 points for the Stateswomen, who led 16-4 after a quarter of play.
Bloom-Carroll 64,
Logan Elm 19

Bloom-Carroll used a 24-2 first quarter to take early control of an MSL-Buckeye game on Tuesday and defeat host Logan Elm 64-19.
Emily Bratton posted a game-high 24 points to lead the Bulldogs (8-1, 5-1).
Cadence Haupt had seven points and Maggie Wilson added four for the Braves (0-11, 0-6), who host Unioto on Dec. 29 for a non-league game.

Fairfield Union 53,
Amanda-Clearcreek 21

Fairfield Union entered the Christmas break still unbeaten on Tuesday following a 52-21 MSL-Buckeye win over visiting Amanda-Clearcreek.
The Falcons led 26-0, 37-11 and 51-15 at the stops.
Emily Buckley had seven points and Rachel Weaver added six for the Aces (5-5, 3-3), who travel to Fairfield Christian on Tuesday for a non-league tilt.
