Bloom-Carroll had five of the top 10 scores on Tuesday on its way to capturing the first Mid-State League Buckeye Division tournament of the season at Crown Hill Golf Club.
The Bulldogs captured the first of four league tournaments this boys golf season with 329, followed by Circleville (345), Teays Valley (348) and Logan Elm (352).
Michael Fernandez paced the Tigers with 81, and was followed by Garrett Brooks (82), Avery Ferrell (90) and Reid Seimetz (92).
Vance Hanger finished tied for second overall in the field for the Vikings with a round of 80, and was followed by Caden Sherman (87), James Bush (88) and JD Lathem (93).
“I thought that we played well in spurts today,” Teays Valley coach Brian Barnett said. “We would play four or five holes really well as a team then have three or four holes where we really struggled.
“Sophomore Vance Hanger played well all day today. He was solid from tee to green, hit the ball well. Sophomore Caden Sherman played real solid today, as well. He hit some great shots into greens, just could not get a putt of any length to drop. If he gets one or two of them to go. I think he would have gone real low today. Junior James Bush played well, he had one tough hole that inflated his score. Otherwise, he was his usual steady self out on the golf course.
“I think this group has the potential to take their golf scores real low in the coming weeks. It is going to be fun to watch these player progress throughout the season.”
Logan Elm’s Will Higginbotham captured medalist honors by two strokes with a final scorecard of 78. Grant Cline followed with 84, Clayton Lambert shot 93 and Graham Williams carded 97.
The second league tournament of the season is scheduled for Aug. 20 at a site to be determined.
