There is nothing like starting the postseason by claiming medalist honors.
And that’s what Teays Valley senior Audrey Keplar accomplished on Tuesday in a Division I Central District sectional tournament held at Blacklick Woods Golf Course.
Keplar shared medalist honors with Dublin Jerome senior Audrey Ryu, with each golfer turning in a scorecard of 72. Ryu shot a 36 on the front nine and 36 on the back, while Keplar shot 35 on the front and 37 on the back nine.
The Teays Valley senior was the first of three individuals to qualify for Monday’s district tournament and accomplished the feat for a fourth consecutive season.
“I had a great round,” Keplar said. “Blacklick can be challenging with a lot of areas you can get in trouble.
“I hit the ball well and my putter was great. It always feels good to get out of sectionals and I’m really happy doing it with such a great round. I’m ready for districts on Monday.”
Marysville senior Avery Prohaska (43-41) and sophomore Alee Forrider (43-41) each shot an 84 to also advance as individuals, beating out Watterson freshman Lotis Wert (37-47) who also fired an 84.
Dublin Jerome placed four golfers in the top six to run away with the 12-school sectional field title with a team score of 308. Dublin Coffman (329) and Granville (362) also advanced as teams to the district tournament.
The Vikings finished fifth with 407.
Makinna Pinion followed Keplar with a 106 (51-55), Brooklynn Lowry shot 111 (60-51) and Ava Ackerman tallied 118 (52-66). Also playing for the Vikings was Adison Abele with 121 (59-62).
Keplar is slated to travel to The Links at Echo Springs on Monday for the Central District tournament.
