ASHVILLE — Sometimes basketball boils down to being a simple game.

Making shots was the key for New Albany in a non-league game on Tuesday on its way to a 64-54 win over host Teays Valley.

The Eagles led at every stop, thanks in part to making 25 of 39 (64 percent) shots, on the evening in Viking Gymnasium.

The Vikings tried to cut into a nine-point halftime deficit opening the second half with a three-pointer from Ryan Allton and a jumper courtesy of Brayden Primmer.

Teays Valley’s Ryan Allton, seen here in an earlier game, scored 17 points against New Albany.

Teays Valley cut its deficit to just three points, but a timeout from New Albany helped to get it back on track as it finished the third quarter with a 55-44 lead.

“We made some adjustments at half and cut the lead down from nine, but New Albany controlled the tempo after the timeout,” Teays Valley coach Brian Barnett said.

The Eagles drained nine three-pointers in their win, led by Will Powell and Braylen Nash hitting three apiece.

Miles Jackson led all scorers with 19 points, Nash tallied 15 and Powell added 11 for the Eagles (4-5).

“We knew they would try and spread it out to get to the shooters with their point guard,” Barnett said. ““We also knew Powell wasn’t going to play inside and we knew New Albany was going to try stretch on us to get to him.”

Ryan Allton led the way for the Vikings with 17 points, Brayden Primmer contributed 13 points and seven rebounds, Sam Miller had 11 points and six rebounds and Brody Fields also chipped in 11 points.

The Vikings (6-3, 5-0) host Bloom-Carroll (6-1, 5-0) on Thursday in a battle of Mid-State League Buckeye Division unbeatens.
