Mustangs are victorious in return to Dome

Home sweet home.

Playing just its third home game in the last 36 days, Westfall was fired up to be back on its hardwood in The Dome and came away with 19 steals on Tuesday to record a 53-39 Scioto Valley Conference win over visiting Huntington.

“The girls played extremely hard,” Westfall coach Joseph Patete said. “It was nice to finally get back and play at home, since we only played at home once in December.

“As a team, we shot the ball well and our ball movement was the best it has been this season.”

Paige Weiss led all scorers with 21 points for the Mustangs. Marianna Packer contributed 14 points and nine steals, Adrian Moehl scored eight points, and Aubrey Clark contributed six points to go with nine rebounds. Alyssa Wyman chipped in five steals.

Westfall jumped out to a 15-7 lead following a quarter of play with four players contributing to the scoring.

Packer hit a pair of three-pointers to get the Mustangs out to a quick start and Weiss chipped in five points.

Weiss connected on a pair of triples of her own during the second quarter, as the Mustangs extended their advantage to 25-15 at the break.

“We shot the ball well from three, hitting eight three-pointers,” Patete said.

Weiss accounted for five more points in the third quarter and Clark chipped in four markers of her own to help the Mustangs take a 39-27 lead into the final period of play.

Allie Baker scored 11 points and Emma Hinshaw added nine for the Huntsmen (7-7, 3-4).

The Mustangs (2-11, 2-5) continue conference play on Saturday when they host Piketon.
