Mustangs use fourth quarter run to put away Panthers

Westfall wore down visiting Southeastern on Saturday and used a dominating fourth quarter to record a 66-47 Scioto Valley Conference win.

Casey Cline led all scorers with 21 points for the Mustangs. Brody Clark and Blaec Bugher contributed 10 points and five assists apiece, Henry Barnes had nine points, Jeremiah Layton turned in nine points and six rebounds and Seth Gifford had seven points, nine rebounds and five assists.

“This was a good bounce back win for us tonight,” Westfall coach Christian Meister said. “It has been a rough couple of weeks with injury and illness.

“Our guys continue to fight and make no excuses. It was also good to be back at home playing in the Dome. Tonight, was our 14th game of the season and only our fourth home game.”

Leading by one possession coming out of halftime, the Mustangs extended their lead to 45-38 going into the final period of play.

A quartet of Mustangs scored in the period, paced by Barnes and Clark with five points apiece.

Westfall closed the conference win with a 21-9 fourth quarter that featured six players contributing to the scoring.

Cline and Bugher paced the Mustangs with five points apiece and Gifford accounted for four more.

RJ Cartwright led the way with 17 points for the Panthers (4-10, 1-7)

The Mustangs (8-6, 6-2) are slated to travel to Ohio Christian’s Maxwell Center on Tuesday to take on New Hope Christian (8-3) for a non-conference game. Westfall edged New Hope 61-58 last month during the Horizon Holiday Classic at Circleville.
