Statesmen win February Freeze tourney

The New Hope girls basketball team went 3-0 over the weekend in Agler, Ohio to win the February Freeze tournament. The Statesmen posted wins of 72-66 over the Fort Wayne Hawks, 56-42 against the Ohio Eagles and 57-27 versus the Marion Hawks.

Jenna Tripp made the all-tournament team while winning the three-point competition (the senior guard was 12/26 for the weekend from behind-the-arc) and getting second in the free throw competition.

Maren McCallister was voted the tournament MVP with a pair of double doubles and 98 points for the weekend.

“It was a great weekend of basketball with some very good homeschool programs from northern Ohio and Indiana,” New Hope coach Brian McCallister said. “Eden Leist tweaked her hamstring Friday night and didn’t play at all in the two games Saturday.  Jenna turned an ankle Saturday and was very limited in our final game.  Aubrey Christensen stepped into the starting lineup and gave us seven points, seven rebounds and two assists and some great defense while we were a little shorthanded.”

“We have a few days to heal up before we send off our four seniors against Cristo Rey on Friday night in The Statehouse.”
