New Hope wins pair in Portsmouth this week

PORTSMOUTH — A good start followed by an even better second quarter propelled New Hope to a 73-23 win over Scioto Christian Friday night at Shawnee State University. 

The Statesmen had a 27-14 lead after the first period and then held their opponent to a single point in the second quarter for a 55-15 halftime edge. 

Eleven of the twelve New Hope players got in the scorebook led by 13 each from Hunter Cavanaugh and Nathaniel Ames. 

Earlier this week, the Statesmen were 66-63 winners in another trip to Scioto County at Portsmouth West. 

New Hope held a 58-44 lead entering the fourth quarter and held off the Senators’ comeback. 

Four New Hope players hit double figures in scoring led by Lane Bruning with 19. Xander Rink scored 16 for New Hope, Nathanial Ames had 15 and Hunter Cavanaugh put in 10.
