Roundup: Mustangs win on the road; Tigers defend home court

CHILLICOTHE — Joe Wray had nine of his career-high 28 points in the fourth quarter to help Westfall grab a road win at Southeastern 56-48 Saturday. 

Wray connected on five three-pointers as part of the effort. 

Westfall’s Brody Clark sunk five threes of his own – all in the first half – for 15 points in the game. 

The two had 17 of Westfall’s 19 first-quarter points in getting out to a 19-9 lead and they had 12 of the 14 in the second for a 33-27 advantage at the half. 

The Mustangs’ scoring cooled in the third with Wray collecting five points and Jeremiah Layton adding two. But the Panthers only cut Westfall’s advantage by two. 

The Panthers were led by Connor Smith with 14 and Lane Williams had 11.

Tigers hold Rangers to a scoreless opening quarter in win

Circleville held visiting Hamilton Township scoreless in the first quarter on the way to grabbing a 48-33 league win Saturday afternoon. 

The Tigers got out to a 15-0 advantage after one period. 

Freshman Addison Edgington was key to the quick start with nine of her game-high 22 points in the opening period. 

Jael Haynes-Lee broke HT’s scoring drought in the second minute of the second quarter but the Tigers built their lead to 27-5 lead by halftime. 

The Rangers fared better in the second half outscoring their hosts 14-11 in the third and 14-10 in the fourth. 

Along with the 22 from Edgington, Circleville got nine from Gabby McConnell and six from Faith Yancey. Edgington, McConnell and Yancey each grabbed six rebounds as well. 

Haynes-Lee and Alexis Wooten each had 12 to lead the Rangers.
