ASHVILLE — Teays Valley saw seven players tally a score and four reach double digits to win this Mid-State League matchup over the visiting Hamilton Township Rangers 77-52.
Kennedy Younkin led the way for TV with 23 points and 12 rebounds with Alyssa Horsley adding 19 points.
“I was happy with our offense putting up 77 points as it was something we talked about and having four players in double figures was huge for us,” TV coach Trevor Younkin said.
Horsley opened the scoring with a drive to the basket, then consecutive scores from Younkin gave Teays Valley the early 6-0 lead. Gabrielle Watkins added seven points, Cooper McManaway had five points and Horsley added a three-point play to put TV up 21-10 after the first quarter.
The second quarter was opened by a Viking two from Abby Tier, followed by a foul drawn by Horsley in which she dropped both sots from the line. Then Alyssa found her sister Tessa Horsley for a crisp pass through defenders to draw ahead further.
Seven points from Younkin, a basket from Alyssa Horsley and one from Addi Helwagen lifted TV to a 38-26 halftime lead.
The Vikings shot out of the gate after half with a basket from Tessa Horsley, then Horsley found a streaking Kennedy Younkin for another Viking score as Younkin had 10 in the quarter.
TV ended the period up 57-40.
“I feel tonight we were well balanced, we got transition baskets, baskets inside, and with the good defensive teams we’ve played this year that has been a challenge to do those things and we did that well tonight and I was pleased,” coach Younkin said.
While seniors Alyssa Horsley, Watkins and Younkin accounted for 52 points, coach Younkin was also impressed with the efforts of his younger players.
“Our freshmen have added a lot to our team this year, along with our sophomores, Cami (Robins) and Tessa are playing phenomenally and tonight we needed a win like this going into play a team like Grove City Saturday,” he said.
TV shot 58 percent from the field (33-57) and 6-12 from the line.
Alexis Wooten led the Rangers with 19 points, Myke-kila Dean had 15 and Jael Haynes-lee added 12 points.
