ASHVILLE — A slow start for Teays Valley deemed to be much as they fell to visiting Upper Arlington in a 44-36 non-league matchup.
The Vikings’ lone scorer in the first was Brody Fields as he hit a foul shot and a long jumper.
“Tonight, it was simple, they were more physical than us and shoved us around,” TV Coach Barnett said.
The Golden Bears would collect baskets from Lakin Rex and Cal Casey then an Alex Smith three would end the quarter 7-3 Upper Arlington.
The Golden Bears opened the second quarter downing four free throws by big man Alex Smith. The Vikings would answer with a Sam Miller basket from the paint. UA responded with eight straight points with the Vikings’ lone answer being a Sam Miller stuff and throw down court to Cavin McDowell for the hard drive to the basket for a soaring two. Upper Arlington ended the quarter with a Zach Corna three and a 23-7 lead.
Miller had six in the third with Owen Hoffhines hitting a three and Kole Nungester and Brody Fields each scoring for a 13-7 TV advantage in the quarter to trim the UA lead to 30-21.
The Golden Bears led by as many as 12 in the fourth and TV closed to within six late.
Upper Arlington converted five of eight free throws late to seal the win.
Sam Miller led the Vikings with 16 points and Alex Smith led UA with 11.
“We weren’t able to execute on the offensive end as well as we usually do,” said Barnett. “We will rebound and learn from our mistakes and take this and correct it in practice and be ready for Hamilton next Saturday.”
