CHILLICOTHE — Unioto kept Westfall from getting too close in the fourth quarter to hand the Mustangs a 53-45 loss Friday night.
The fourth began with a 43-34 Shermans lead, but a basket by Westfall’s Henry Barnes and a three-point play from Brody Clark made it a four-point game.
Unioto’s KB Perkins scored off an offensive rebound to make the score six again.
Westfall’s Jeremiah Layton made it a four-point game when he scored with 5:21 left.
Perkins answered for the Shermans 20 seconds later and Henry Barnes scored for Westfall at the 4:20 mark to make the score 47-43.
The next two baskets came from Unioto’s Ashton Crace to make it an eight-point game with three minutes left.
A basket by Clark got the Mustangs to within six with a little over two minutes left but those were the last points of the night for the Mustangs.
Unioto survived five turnovers in the fourth quarter as well as 2-6 free throw shooting in the final minute.
Early in the game, the Shermans got a big lead by scoring the last five points of the first quarter and 10 of the first 12 in the second to go up 29-14.
Westfall’s Joe Wray had the last eight points of the first half to close the gap with 29-22 at the break.
Clark led Westfall with 13 and Wray had 11 with Barnes and Layton each scoring eight.
Zeke Schobelok and Blake Hoops each had 13 to lead Unioto and Perkins and Crace each had nine.
The Mustangs (7-3, 3-1) are back at it Saturday night hosting Madison Plains. The Shermans (5-5, 3-1) are back in action Tuesday hosting Huntington.
