Roundup: Aces take MSL win over Rangers, Mustangs stop Red Streaks, New Hope falls to Vinton County

AMANDA — Amanda-Clearcreek left little doubt it was going to come out on top on the way to a 57-28 win over visiting Hamilton Township.

Nine points from Kaylie Wilson and seven from Taylor Evans got the Aces out to a 21-7 lead after the first quarter and they were up 35-11 at the half. 

Evans had another seven-point quarter after the break as AC extended its lead to 52-18.

Evans finished as the game’s top scorer with 20 points and Wilson put in 15 with Rachel Weaver contributing eight and Allie Leist six.

Kiki Dean led the Rangers (3-9, 0-8) with 10 points. 

The Aces (10-3, 6-2) host Nelsonville-York Thursday.

Mustangs down Streaks on the road

PIKETON — Westfall improved to 8-4 in the season by going to Piketon and taking a win from the Red Streaks 37-32 Tuesday night. 

Brody Clark had a seven-point first quarter while Henry Barnes added four and Jeremiah Layton put in a three to get the Mustangs out to a 14-8 lead. 

Westfall’s lead was 21-12 at the half. 

The Red Streaks (5-5, 2-3) got five points from Garrett Legg, three-pointers from Mason Thacker and Brent McGuire along with three points from Bo Henry in the third as they tightened the difference to 29-26 entering the fourth quarter.

The Mustangs (8-4, 4-1) held on in a low-scoring fourth quarter with Clark and Layton scoring baskets and Clark and Bryan Craig combining to go 4-4 at the line.

Clark led the Mustangs with 21 points.

Henry led Piketon with 16.

Westfall is back in action Saturday night at Adena.

Statesmen fall to Vikings

McARTHUR — Garrett Brown had 13 of his game-high 28 in the first quarter to help Vinton County to an 81-57 win over visiting New Hope Tuesday night. 

The Vikings got out to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter. 

Another 21-point quarter in the second was spurred on by 11 points from Cobra Sharp to give the Vikings a 42-27 lead at the half. 

Sharp would finish the night with 15 points while Ashton Allman had 14 for VC and Ashton Tritipo had 12. 

Lane Bruning led the Statesmen with 24 points while Tyler Cook had 11 and Hunter Cavanaugh had 10.

The Statesmen are back in action Saturday as they travel to Franklin Furnace to take on Green High School.
