Tigers remain unbeaten, New Hope wins at Green

A couple late baskets in the second quarter gave Circleville an eight-point lead at the half and then a big defensive third period helped the Tigers to their 13th win in as many tries this season with a 45-25 victory over Amanda-Clearcreek.

The score was 17-9 in favor of the Tigers midway through the second and the Aces got a pair of free throws from Addy Pugh and then a basket from Wilson to make it a four-point game with 3:23 left in the half. 

Circleville finished off the half with a shot from the corner by Faith Yancey and then Maddie Blakeman scored off an inbounds pass with a little over a minute left to make it 21-13 in favor of the Tigers heading into halftime. 

Blakeman added seven in the third while the Circleville defense limited the Aces to just two points in extending the lead to 34-15.

Addison Edgington had 10 in the fourth for Circleville as part of a 14-point night and Blakeman had 14 for the Tigers as well. Edgington pulled down five rebounds and Blakeman had five steals. 

Yancey had all eight of her points in the first half to go with five steals. 

Pugh and Taylor Evans led the Aces with nine points each. 

After 10 home games in the first half of the season, the Tigers (13-0, 8-0) have a five-game road swing ahead of them. They head to Gallipolis to take on Gallia Academy Tuesday and will be at Logan Elm Friday. 

The Aces (11-4, 6-3) host Westfall Monday and then welcome in Fairfield Union Friday.

Cavanaugh has 22, Bruning 21 in New Hope win

FRANKLIN FURNACE — New Hope established a solid lead in the first quarter on the way to grabbing a 75-61 over Green Saturday night. 

Tyler Cook sunk three three-pointers and Hunter Cavanaugh added seven points as part of a strong start for the Statesmen. With five from Xavier Rink, four from Lane Bruning and two from Landen Parker, New Hope was up 27-9 after the first eight minutes. 

After a 19-19 second quarter kept the New Hope edge at 18 points, the Statesmen extended their lead to 23 points (62-39) after three periods. 

Cavanaugh finished the game with 22 points and Bruning had 13 in the second half in scoring 21. 

Cook finished the night with 12 points and Xander Rink put in 12 in his first game back after a five-game absence due to injury.

The Bobcats’ Jonathan Knapp did what he could to keep his team in the game with a 32-point night while Landon Kimbler put in 14. 

The Statesmen host Patriot Prep on Tuesday.

Adena 79, Westfall 52

FRANKFORT — Adena jumped out to a 15-0 lead on the way to defeating Westfall 79-52 Saturday night.

The Warriors (8-4, 3-2) held a 19-7 lead after the first quarter and were up 45-17 by halftime.

Easton Henness had a game-high 26 to lead the Warriors.

Brody Clark put in 20 to pace the Mustangs (8-4, 4-1).
