Aces win matchup with Westfall

AMANDA — Amanda-Clearcreek jumped out to an 18-2 lead in the first quarter on the way to a 48-21 win over visiting Westfall Monday night.

“This is one of those games we needed to get back into the (win) column after losing there on Saturday,” AC coach Tim Leist said, referring to Saturday’s loss to Circleville. “We set a goal — clinch a winning season and this is our third straight winning season, so we were happy about that.”

Addy Pugh and Kaylie Wilson helped get the Aces (12-4) started as they each sunk a pair of threes in the first with Rachel Weaver scoring four and Hailey Sowers adding the another basket.

The AC lead was 32-8 by halftime.

Pugh finished the night as the game’s top scorer with 15 points and Wilson finished with 13. Hailey Sowers had seven and Weaver had six.

Adrian Moehl led the Mustangs (2-13) with 12 points.

AC struggled a bit to knock down shots and, with only six games left in the regular season, that is something Leist said they need to improve upon for the postseason.

“We’ve got to continue to work on finishing around the rim. We get good looks and those are things we just have to continue to work on because now we’re talking about the tournament, which is coming here in a couple weeks,” he said. “Little things like that make a big difference when you get into the sectional. And our goal is to play for a district title.

“We’ve got to be able to clean that stuff up and finish those shots around the rim and execute offensively.”

The Aces return to league action Friday hosting Fairfield Union while the Mustangs host Adena Tuesday.
