Statesmen in control over Patriot Prep

New Hope got out to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter and never let Patriot Prep get closer than 10 points the rest of the night in picking up a 56-42 win Tuesday.

Hunter Cavanaugh helped the Statesmen get off to their strong start with 10 of his 13 points in the first half.

The Statesmen had a 29-16 lead at the half.

Leading 41-27 after the third quarter, New Hope led by as many as 19 in the final period.

Xander Rink and Lane Bruning also had 13 points in leading New Hope with Bruning pulling down a dozen rebounds with four assists and Rink had four steals.

“This is the second game back for Xander Rink after being out with an injury in the middle of December. His energy on the defensive end, rebounding and scoring has given us a big lift,” New Hope coach Shane Roese said. “Lane continues to play at a high level over the last six to seven games. He is averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds in this stretch. Tonight, he did a great job of helping us beat their full-court pressure.”

New Hope had a 35-29 rebounding edge in the game.

Cameron Thomas led Patriot (8-6) with 12 points and Dominic Sammons had 11.

The Statesmen (8-3) are back in action Saturday hosting Cincinnati Christian.
