Aces lose tight battle to Fisher Catholic

AMANDA — Amanda-Clearcreek welcomed in Fisher Catholic to wrap up the regular season Saturday and the teams battled in a tight game all night with the Irish hitting the game-winner with eight seconds left for 64-63 final.

Amanda-Clearcreek led 19-18 after the first quarter and Fisher Catholic was up 32-31 at halftime. FC’s lead was 49-46 entering the final period.

With two-and-a-half minutes left in the game, AC’s Kaylie Wilson scored to tie the game at 61-61. 

The score stayed that way until Wilson banked in a 14-footer with 25 seconds remaining, putting AC up 63-61.

FC pushed the ball up the floor through heavy AC pressure, the ball went to senior Jayda Dixon who found junior Sydney Ellis in the corner who put up a three. Her shot bounced off the rim and backboard five times before falling through net with eight seconds left. 

After an AC timeout, Fisher Catholic – with fouls to give – fouled with three seconds left. On the ensuing inbounds play, the Aces were able to get a shot off, but it was under heavy pressure and didn’t find its mark. 

Wilson and Taylor Evans led the Aces with 18 points each and Hailey Sowers had 15. 

Ellie Bruce led FC with 23 points and Voni Bethel had 20 – all in the first half.
