ASHVILLE — A decisive third quarter propelled Teays Valley to a 61-37 Senior Night win over visiting Logan Elm Saturday.

The Vikings had a 13-11 lead after the first quarter and had taken it to 28-18 by halftime.

Teays Valley’s defense clamped down in the third quarter limiting Logan Elm to a Maggie Wilson basket and Kimmy Petty free throw.

The Vikings used three long rangers in the period — one coming from Gabrielle Watkins and two from Alyssa Horsley — along with a pair of buckets each from Kennedy Younkin and Tessa Horsley to lead 45-21 going into the 4th quarter.

“I thought we were able to go out and execute well especially with all the outside factors of it being senior night and us celebrating the past champions here at Teays Valley and we were still able to go out and have three players in double digits and share the ball the way we did and go 12-15 at the line,” TV coach Trevor Younkin said. “That’s just the things we talk about, you just got to go out and perform and execute and be consistent. I think we did that against a good Logan Elm team who is showing strides and are exciting to watch.”

The fourth quarter played even with both teams adding 16 to their total.

“We fought hard tonight, but when a team like Teays goes on a run offensively you’ve got to be able to match it and we weren’t able to,” Logan Elm coach Mike Schultz said. “We were up 11-6 at one point and tried to run the clock and took the shoot too early in the first and it turned into us trailing by two after the first. Then they hit the three when the second began and we weren’t able to match that.”

Kennedy Younkin led the Vikings with 18 points and seven rebounds while Alyssa Horsley had 11 points and seven rebounds and Gabrielle Watkins had 11 points.

Kiannah Ingram led the Braves with 17 points and five rebounds, but the Vikings were able to hold her scoreless in the decisive second and third quarters.

TV celebrated its four seniors before the game – Alyssa Horsley, Abby Tier, Gabrielle Watkins and Kennedy Younkin.

“It’s hard to put into words what these seniors mean to me. I am proud of them and happy for where they are going, and we are going to miss them next year,” coach Younkin said.

Saturday’s contest wraps up the regular season for Logan Elm. The Braves (10-12) finished finished in fifth place in the league with a 5-9 MSL record. They open tournament play Thursday against Marietta at Alexander High School.

Teays Valley (14-7, 10-3) has one more game to go when the Vikings host Circleville (20-0, 13-0) Monday. A win would put the Vikings in a tie for second in the league.
