Tuesday’s diamond report: Aces drop league contests at FU; TV SB suffers first setback; Braves BB falls to Shermans

BB — Fairfield Union 4, Amanda-Clearcreek 1

LANCASTER — Amanda-Clearcreek had two more hits, but Fairfield Union came out on top 4-1 Tuesday night. 

An RBI single from Nick Holland had the Aces up 1-0 in the first. The Falcons tied the game in the bottom of the inning off a walk where the runner advanced to second on a passed ball, to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch. 

A pair of third inning singles put two runners in scoring position for the Aces (2-6) with one out only to have a strikeout and a groundout end the inning. 

The Falcons put three more across in the bottom of the fourth. A walk and hit batter gave the Falcons a pair of baserunners with one out when Kyle Wolfe doubled to left bringing both of them in. Wolfe advanced to third on the play and scored off a sacrifice bunt to put FU up 4-1. 

Gary Kemmerling started for the Aces. He went four innings allowing all four runs (three earned) on one hit with three walks and two strikeouts. Dalton Dresbach pitched an inning, giving up three hits, walking two and striking out one and Holland pitched an inning, striking out one. 

BB — Unioto 14, Logan Elm 7

CHILLICOTHE — There were 26 hits and 21 runs scored when Logan Elm visited Unioto Tuesday night with the Shermans coming out on top 14-7.

Kelton Bennington got the Braves on the board first with an RBI single in the first inning. 

The Shermans used four hits in the bottom of the inning to score four runs.

Logan Elm tied the game in the top of the third. 

With two outs, Bennington singled and Keegan Diehl walked. Bennington advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch. Then Zane Seimer walked. 

That was followed up with RBI singles from Carson Summers and Brady Neff to tie the game at 4-4. 

Unioto came back with five hits in the bottom of the inning – including a two-run triple – to get up 8-4. 

Logan Elm closed the gap with two runs in the fourth before the Shermans added one in the bottom of the inning. 

Unioto used four walks, an error and a single to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth put the game out of reach with a 14-6 lead. 

The Braves added one more run in the seventh to close out the game. 

Summers took the loss for the Braves as he went five innings giving up nine runs (eight earned) on 13 hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Lucas Bialy came on in relief allowing five runs (three earned) with four walks and a strikeout in a third of an inning of work with Bennington taking over and getting the final two outs. 

SB — Fairfield Union 4, Amanda-Clearcreek 2

LANCASTER — Amanda-Clearcreek came out on the short end of a decisive fourth inning as the Aces fell 4-2 at Fairfield Union Tuesday. 

The Aces started the fourth inning with a leadoff double from Alex Martin followed by an RBI double from Haley Robinson. 

With one out, a single from Makenna Singleton put runners on the corners and then Ady Gilbert singled to drive another run for a 2-0 lead. 

The Falcons came out swinging in their half of the fourth as Adelyn Wolfe opened the inning with a home run. 

After recording an out, the Falcons put together a couple of hits to tie the game. 

FU got the lead with two outs. An RBI single put the Falcons up 3-2. An error kept the inning alive, and another hit made it 4-2 in favor of the hosts. 

The Aces put runners in scoring position in the fifth inning but were unable to add to their total. 

Casadee Steinmetz started the game for AC and went four innings. She allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Singleton pitched two innings in relief allowing two hits and recording a strikeout. 

SB — Mount Vernon 3, Teays Valley 0

MOUNT VERNON — Teays Valley had its first setback of the season with a 3-0 loss at Mount Vernon Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets used three second-inning hits to take a 1-0 lead. 

The margin stayed at 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth when MV used a one-out single, a triple and another single to put two more runs across. 

Alyvia Lawrentz started in the circle for the Vikings and went 4.1 innings. She allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts. Isabel Sayre went 1.2 innings in relief. She gave up two runs on four hits with one walk. 

The Vikings (6-1) were held to four hits – a double from Morgan Cantrell and singles from Lawrentz, Avery Stratton and Michelle Brumfield.
