Vikings clinch share of league; Tigers top Falcons; Mustangs fall 1-0 at ZT; Braves nipped by Lions; Aces lose to BC

SB — Teays Valley 6, Hamilton Township 1

OBETZ — Morgan Cantrell went 4-4 at the plate, including a first-inning home run, as Teays Valley beat Hamilton Township 6-1 Wednesday.

The win moves the Vikings to 12-2 in league play and gives them at least a share of the MSL Buckeye Division championship. (TV (15-5) has league games left at Circleville Thursday and will host Amanda-Clearcreek Friday.)

Abbi Revalee had two hits on the afternoon and scored twice. Avery Mann went 1-2 with two RBI.

Avery Stratton pitched all seven innings for the Vikings. She gave up one earned run on five hits with a walk and 11 strikeouts. 

SB — Circleville 10, Fairfield Union 0

CIRCLEVILLE — Circleville scored two runs in five of the six innings Wednesday to beat Fairfield Union 10-0. 

Heading into the bottom of the sixth, CHS (11-8, 9-4) had an 8-0 lead.

With one out, Audrey Cowdery and Kaylee West both singled. 

Gabby McConnell followed with a double to center. Cowdery came around to score but Tori Bennett (running for West) was thrown out at home for the second out. McConnell went to third on the throw.

Intentional walks were issued to Makaylee Holbrook and Ella Michael to load the bases. 

The game came to an end three pitches later though when McConnell scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-0 and put the mercy rule into effect. 

Cowdery, West, McConnell, Holbrook and Maddie Blakeman each had two hits for the Tigers. 

McConnell pitched six shutout innings for the Tigers. She gave up three hits with a walk and nine strikeouts.

SB — Zane Trace 1, Westfall 0

KINNIKINNICK — Hits were hard to come by Wednesday as Zane Trace came out on top of a 1-0 game with visiting Westfall. 

The Mustangs (7-11, 7-7) managed only three hits — two from Logan McNeal — and the Pioneers had four.

Westfall’s Jill Butcher snags a fly ball to end the first inning.

One of those ZT hits was decisive.

ZT (9-9, 7-7) started off the bottom of the first with Haylynn Boggess-Pierce drawing a walk. After a strikeout, she stole second and then went to third on a passed ball. Another strikeout was recorded and then Brynn Wipert singled to center to score Boggess-Pierce with what turned out to be the game’s only run. 

Adrina Hicks pitched for the Mustangs and gave up the one earned run on four hits with four walks and she struck out nine.

SB — Liberty Union 4, Logan Elm 3

CIRCLEVILLE — Liberty Union scored four times in the first inning and made it hold up in grabbing a 4-3 win at Logan Elm Wednesday. 

The Lions (16-6, 10-4) opened the game with a triple, a walk and then a two-run double. Two errors led to two more runs scoring and the Lions led 4-0 after the first. 

Logan Elm (15-8, 8-6) got on the scoreboard in the third. 

Lucy Caplinger had a leadoff single and then Sadie Binkley homered to center to close the gap to 4-2. 

An error, a lineout, a walk and a sacrifice bunt set up an RBI single off the bat of Tia Fowler to close the gap to 4-3. 

LE managed only two more base runners the rest of the way. 

Fowler went 3-3 at the plate and Binkley had two hits.

Binkley pitched for the Braves and gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. 

SB — Bloom-Carroll 13, Amanda-Clearcreek 0 (5 innings)

AMANDA — Bloom-Carroll held Amanda-Clearcreek to one hit in getting a 13-0 five-inning win Wednesday. 

Ady Gilbert had AC’s lone hit with a single in the second inning. 

BC (14-9, 9-5) got off to a big start with six runs in the first inning and scored three more in the second. 

After a scoreless third and fourth, the Bulldogs scored four more times in the fifth. 

Makenna Singleton started for the Aces (4-12, 3-10) and pitched three innings. She gave up nine runs (three earned) on eight hits with five walks. Hannah Bryan pitched two innings in relief. She gave up four earned runs on four hits, walked two and struck out two.
