SB — Circleville 4, Teays Valley 3

CIRCLEVILLE — A pair of late runs gave Circleville the edge it needed to beat visiting Teays Valley 4-3.

After falling behind 3-0 after three innings, Circleville closed the gap with a two-run triple by Maddie Blakeman in the fourth and then took the lead in the sixth.

Makaylee Holbrook led off the sixth with a single and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt from Ella Micheal. Kayla Fleck singled and ended up at second on the throw to give the Tigers two runners in scoring position.

Blakeman came through again with a hard-hit ground ball to short that saw her reach with a single and Holbrook come in to score. Allie Mullins entered the lineup to hit and doubled to center, scoring Fleck with the go-ahead run.

Three TV popups in the top of the seventh brought the game to a close.

Circleville’s Ally Thornsley slides in under the throw to steal third Thursday afternoon.

The Vikings took the early lead with a two-run double off the bat of Abbi Revalee in the second and added a third run in the third when – with the bases loaded – Michelle Brumfield was hit by a pitch.

Gabby McConnell went the distance for the Tigers. She gave up the three runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

Alyvia Lawrentz started for the Vikings and pitched 4.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Isabel Sayre pitched the final one and a third innings allowing two runs on four hits with a walk.

The win moves Circleville into a tie for second in the Mid-State League’s Buckeye Division. The Tigers (16-6) have completed league play with a 10-4 mark, tied with Liberty Union. Teays Valley (15-6) has one leage game remaining Friday afternoon against Amanda-Clearcreek. The Vikings have a 10-3 record in the league. A win Friday will give them the league title to themselves while a loss would make a three-way tie at the top.
