Friday diamond report: Vikings claim final MSL SB title; TV BB blanks LE; Circleville BB/SB win non-league matchups; Aces top Westfall; SVC baseball title decided

SB — Teays Valley 23, Amanda-Clearcreek 2 (5 innings)

ASHVILLE — Teays Valley closed out a Mid-State League Buckeye Division winning season in style with a 23-2 win over Amanda-Clearcreek in five innings. 

The win closes out Teays Valley’s time in the Mid-State League and they get to head off from their final season as MSL champs. The Vikings (16-6) finish with an 11-3 league record – one game ahead of second place Circleville and Liberty Union.

Avery Stratton picked up the win for the Vikings.

Already with a 3-1 lead, the Vikings sent 15 batters to the plate and brought in 12 runs before the first out was recorded in the second inning. That inning saw 18 Vikings swing a bat and 13 of them score as TV took a 16-1 lead. 

Morgan Cantrell had a three-run home run and Alyvia Lawrentz had a three-run triple as part of the inning. 

Aimee DeWeese went 5-5 with four runs scored and three RBI for TV and Lawrentz went 4-5 with four runs scored and four RBI as the Vikings produced 22 hits. 

Hailey Robinson had two hits for the Aces. 

Avery Stratton pitched all five innings for the Vikings. She gave up the two runs on seven hits with two walks and she struck out eight.

Casadee Steinmetz started for the Vikings and went into the second inning giving up 15 runs on 11 hits with two walks. 

Makenna Singleton pitched two innings and gave up two runs on two hits with two walks. 

Hannah Bryan pitched an inning allowing six runs on seven hits with a walk. 

BB — Teays Valley 5, Logan Elm 0

ASHVILLE — Brody Weiler threw a three-hit shutout as Teays Valley beat visiting Logan Elm 5-0 Friday. 

Weiler didn’t issue a walk and struck out 11 in picking up the win. 

Landon Vandegrift had two doubles for the Vikings and drove in two runs. The two RBI came as as part of a four-run fifth inning and he later scored in the inning.

Kyle Rine started for the Braves and went four batters into the fifth inning. He gave up five runs (three earned) on six hits with two walks and he struck out four.  Grant Cline finished out the game and gave up a hit and struck out three.

SB — Circleville 14, Logan 3

LOGAN — Circleville pounded out 17 hits in grabbing a 14-3 win at Logan Friday.

Kayla Fleck went 4-5 with five RBI and a run scored. Three of her RBIs came on a home run in the seventh.

Gabby McConnell went 4-4 at the plate with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. 

Kaylee West had a three-run homer in the fifth.

Audrey Cowdery started and pitched four innings for the Tigers. She allowed three runs on seven hits with a walk and struck out three. 

Fleck pitched three scoreless innings allowing one hit, a walk and she struck out three. 

BB — Circleville 11, Adena 1 (5 innings)

FRANKFORT — Lane Adams drove in four runs and Hunter Phalin drove in two as Circleville beat Adena 11-1 in five innings Friday.

Adams had a two-run triple for the Tigers in the third and drove in two more in the fifth. 

While the Tigers finished with only seven hits, they benefited from six walks and five hit batters.

Zach Bell got the win in going five innings and allowing one unearned run on three hits and he struck out three. 

BB — Amanda-Clearcreek 3, Westfall 2

AMANDA — An error in the bottom of the seventh proved the difference as Amanda-Clearcreek beat Westfall 3-2 Friday.

With the game tied up at 2-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, AC’s Tanner Affolter drew a walk on five pitches and then, after he stole second, Brady Holbrook was walked. 

An error as Affolter attempted a steal of third allowed him to come home with the winning run.

Hits were hard to come by Friday as both teams finished with four.

Blayne Barker had two for the Aces, including a double, while Noah Stonerock and Brendan Biegler each had two for the Mustangs.

Barker started for the Aces and went three innings allowing a run on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts. 

Peyton Brockman pitched three innings and gave up a run on two hits with three walks and a strikeout. 

Gary Kemmerling picked up the win as he pitched a scoreless seventh inning and struck out one.

Cory Green took the loss for the Mustangs as he gave up three runs on four hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts. 

Michael Harwood faced two batters in relief.

BB — Huntington 6, Unioto 4

CHILLICOTHE — The Scioto Valley Conference baseball championship was finally decided Friday night as Huntington and Unioto completed a game suspended from April 17.

The Huntsmen came through with two runs in the top of the seventh and held Unioto’s rally in the bottom of the inning to a single run for a 6-4 Huntington win. 

The win by the Huntsmen leaves Zane Trace (18-4) alone atop the SVC standings with a 12-2 league record. Unioto (18-4) and Huntington (15-6) are tied for second at 11-3.
