Diamond report: Mustangs win pair on baseball field; Vikings split softball matchups; Tigers fall to New Lex

BB — Westfall 9, Madison Plains 1
BB — Westfall 2, Madison Christian 0

London — Westfall grabbed a pair of wins Saturday as the Mustangs beat host Madison Plains 9-1 and then beat Madison Christian 2-0. 

Madison Plains was unable to muster a hit in the contest and scored its only run thanks to a trio of walks and a fielder’s choice in the fourth. 

The Mustangs already had scored three times in the top of the inning and came back with three more in the fifth. Westfall added two in the sixth and scored one more in the seventh.

Jaden Towler, Brady Mullins and Brendan Biegler each had two hits for Westfall. Biegler drove in two runs and Cade Hall had two RBI.

Brenden Tuttle pitched three-plus innings giving up the one run on eight hits with three strikeouts. Trent Walters pitched four innings walking three and striking out five. 

Mustang pitchers gave up only two hits in the shutout against Madison Christian. 

Westfall had only three hits itself, but two came in the decisive fifth inning. 

Tuttle drew a one-out walk and a triple from Noah Stonerock brought him in to score. 

After a walk from Towler, Stonerock stole home for a 2-0 lead. Trent Gardner had a single before the inning ended. 

Westfall’s other hit came from Biegler in the bottom of the second. 

Caleb Lowe went the distance for the Mustangs allowing two hits on three walks with eight strikeouts. 

SB — Olentangy Berlin 5, Teays Valley 3
SB — Teays Valley 12, Beavercreek 4

ASHVILLE — Teays Valley split a pair of games Saturday as the Vikings lost their first game 5-3 to Olentangy Berlin and came back to beat Beavercreek 12-4.

The Vikings opened the game scoring two in the first and the score stayed 2-0 through five innings. 

Berlin took the lead in the top of the fith on an RBI single and a two-run home run. 

An RBI single from Avery Stratton in the bottom of the inning tied the game.

Berlin got back on top in the seventh with a run scored on an error and an RBI double to get a 5-3 lead. 

Alyvia Lawrentz pitched 2.2 innings giving up a hit and striking out four. Isabel Sayre pitched three innings and gave up three runs on six hits with one strikeout. Avery Stratton pitched the final inning and a third, giving up two runs on three hits with a strikeout.

The second game went better for the Vikings as they collected 14 hits in the win over Beavercreek. 

Aimee DeWeese, Michelle Brumfield, Micah Mann and Sayre each had two hits for TV. Mann also drove in three runs. 

Five of TV’s hits came in the second when the Vikings got out in front 3-0. 

Each team scored two runs in the third and fourth innings. 

Then, after holding Beavercreek scoreless in the fifth, the Vikings had six hits in the bottom of the inning to bring five more runs across the plate.

Play was halted one out into the sixth. 

Lawrentz got the win for the Vikings. She gave up four runs on eight hits with a walk and two strikeouts. 

BB — New Lexington 3, Circleville 1

CIRCLEVILLE — New Lexington limited host Circleville to two hits Saturday in grabbing a 3-1 non-league win. 

Both Circleville hits came in the sixth inning.

Austin Gray opened the inning with a single. He was thrown out trying to advance on a fielder’s choice, but Drew Thornsley was safe at first. 

Thornsley took second on a balk and came around to score on a double from Brody Brisker. 

The visiting Panthers scored a single run in the third, fourth and seventh innings. 

Trent Smith started for the Tigers and went three innings giving up a run on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Brisker pitched the final four innings. He gave up two runs on three hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
