Circleville 2, Amanda-Clearcreek 1
CIRCLEVILLE — A little bit of youth helped Circleville to a 2-1 win over visiting Amanda-Clearcreek Wednesday night.
Circleville scored 20 minutes into the first half when freshman Cailen Johnson scored off an assist from freshman Kamale Magagi-Ali.
It was Magagi-Ali scoring a few minutes later off an assist from Kaden Paxton.
The Aces got on the board off a free kick in the second half.
Keeper Will Flory helped preserve the Circleville win with a diving save late in the game.
“I am proud of our guys for the growth they showed as a team. This was a game we knew we were going to have to battle for 80 minutes,” Circleville coach Evan Callihan said. “Amanda-Clearcreek is a team that is better than their record and they play extremely hard. They also have a lot of speed on the field in their attack and on defense.
“I was proud for the way our guys translated things we have been working on in practice into the game. We have been focusing on creating more scoring opportunities and putting shots on target. While we only had two goals, I felt like we created a lot more opportunities and gave ourselves opportunities to score more. Coach Paxton, our assistant, has been emphasizing scoring on headers and we were able to get one tonight.
“Our two freshman Cailen Johnson and Kamale Magagi-Ali rose to the occasion for us and I’m really proud and happy for them. Those are two of the most respectful and hardworking kids I have coached, and I feel that is a big reason why they are able to be successful. They are starting to adjust to the varsity level, and they continue to grow and improve and play a lot of big minutes for our team.”
The Tigers travel to Miami Trace Saturday.
