The Vikings had fallen behind 14-0 in the second when Griffin Gray returned a kickoff 83 yards to make it 14-7 with eight minutes left in the half.

TV stopped the Gales to open the third quarter and took the ball down the field, finishing the drive with a two-yard scoring pass from Brady Farmer to Cavin McDowell.
Another defensive stop set TV up with a short field. The 33-yard drive ended when Carson Payne ran it in from 14 yards out, tying the game at 21-21 with two minutes left in the third.
The next two Lancaster possessions ended with TV interceptions – the second one was returned 16 yards for a touchdown by Payne and TV had its first lead of the night at 28-21 with 6:18 to go.
Lancaster re-tied the game on a 30-yard run from Jahmeir Gordon with just under three minutes left in the contest.

Then a five-yard run from Payne and a 15-yard penalty on the Gales had the Vikings down to the 14. Payne took the ball to the two on the next play and, following a Lancaster timeout, Payne then went up the middle for the go-ahead score.
